Woden ISD, in partnership with Stephen F. Austin State University, operates as an Early College High School under designation from the Texas Education Agency. Woden ISD began the Early College High School model in 2011, added a new cohort each year, and is now transformed as an all school Early College High school with four cohorts of students taking college level coursework.
The concept of Early College High Schools (ECHS) is built on the premise that challenge, not remediation will make a difference for those young people who are least likely to attend college. Research has shown that earning at least 20 college credit hours before graduating high school makes a significant difference between students who complete a college degree and those who never finish college. Woden ECHS and our higher education community partners jointly develop an integrated academic program so all students have the opportunity to earn core completion at no cost to the students or their families.
Early College High Schools engage all students in a comprehensive support system that develops academic and social skills as well as the behaviors and conditions necessary for college completion.
